The Royal Australian Navy’s HMAS Sydney will dock in Albany for the opening weekend of next month's Maritime Festival and hold an open day as part of the festivities.
Coinciding with All at Sea Saturday on July 1, the navy vessel will welcome the public on board, providing visitors with an exclusive insight into the lives of crew and their experiences at sea.
Albany Mayor Dennis Wellington welcomed the Royal Australian Navy to the Maritime Festival for their second consecutive year.
"Last year HMAS Anzac's Open Day had more than 1000 people flock to Albany’s port to tour the ship," he said.
"We are thrilled that the Navy will be supporting the festival again with a visit from HMAS Sydney as part of the All at Sea Saturday event.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity for our community and visitors to learn more about the ship’s vital role in Australia’s defence forces.”
Defence Force Recruiting PO Erika McKay shared their enthusiasm for the upcoming Open Day.
"The crew of HMAS Sydney take great pride in serving our nation and look forward to meeting Albany's local community and sharing insights into the work we do for Australia," she said.
"There is so much to learn and explore, from witnessing impressive technology to interacting with the exceptional crew.
“I strongly urge everyone to seize this opportunity to experience what it could be like to pursue a career with the Navy."
HMAS Sydney will be open to the public from 10.30am – 4.30pm on Saturday, July 1.
Access will be available exclusively through a shuttle bus transfer from the Albany Boatshed.
