Community-led activations will be at the heart of programming for Albany 2026 after the City of Albany approved grants for 15 projects that capture Albany’s rich cultural heritage, reflect on its diverse history, and create new opportunities.

The projects will recognise the Menang-Noongar people’s deep cultural connections to the land now known as Albany, as well as embracing the community’s evolving identity and aspirations for the future.

Among the initiatives is Reflect, Respect, Reactivate, a program at Discovery Bay Tourism Precinct at Albany’s Historic Whaling Station that will feature cultural performances, artist-in-residence programs, and audiovisual displays throughout 2026.

Acclaimed multidisciplinary artist Peter Morse will present Numen, an immersive multimedia song cycle that explores Albany’s changing climate through a fusion of technology, multicultural voices, and striking visual and sound artistry.

The Community Arts Network in partnership with the Menang community and the National Trust’s Strawberry Hill at Barmup will deliver Mapping Menang, a project that brings to life community stories through a digital map and large-scale artwork informed by consultation and creative workshops.

The celebration of local festivals, storytelling initiatives in the region’s rural halls, cinematic and dance productions, and new public art installations including murals and sculptures at Binalup/Middleton Beach are among the projects receiving Albany 2026 grants.

Mayor of Albany Greg Stocks said these community-driven projects will be pivotal in shaping an inclusive and meaningful Albany 2026.“Albany 2026 will be a defining moment for our city, one that acknowledges our complex history, celebrates our diverse community, and looks forward to an exciting future,” he said.

“The City is proud to support these grassroots initiatives, which complement the major events we’ve already secured and will showcase our region’s cultural heritage while fostering creativity and connection.

“The community is at the heart of what we’re striving to achieve in Albany 2026 and these projects will contribute to leaving a lasting legacy for generations to come.”
