Binalup / Middleton Beach foreshore will transform into a playground of summer fun at the City of Albany’s annual Binalup Festival this Friday, 26 January.
Awards and activities will headline the program which will get off to a sizzling start with the Girl Guides Big Breakfast from 7am to 10.30am.
This will be followed by the Citizenship Ceremony and Community Citizen of the Year Awards at 9am, where 28 new Australian citizens will take the citizenship oath and inspiring locals will be recognised for their outstanding contributions to the community.
The ceremony will include a Welcome to Country and the Moorditj Yorgas Youth Choir will perform the song “For our Elders”.
The inaugural Annette Knight Leadership Medal winner will also be announced, celebrating a local voluntary leader in the community who exemplifies the vision, passion, and unwavering commitment to volunteering that the late former Mayor of Albany embodied.
From 11am the Binalup Festival activities get underway and include an exciting interactive performance by the Spare Parts Puppet Theatre. Audience members will participate in bringing The Last Numbat to life as they become puppeteers and learn to manipulate the large-scale marionette.
In recognition of our rich and shared history, the program will include ‘Awesome Aboriginal’ – a cultural display, face painting and collaborative community artwork – from 11am to 4pm, and a performance by the Minang Dance Group at 11.30am.
An array of inflatable amusements will entertain the children as well as dodgeball, archery tag and the ever-popular bubble soccer.
